A private full day tour where you will explore the capital city of the island of Mauritius, Port Louis and the northern parts of the island.

After pick-up from your accommodation, you will head to Port Louis – a city where you will discover the center of tradition and culture. Street food is aplenty for you to take your taste buds on a ride. Port Louis combines a good mix of old and new – stop at traditional markets or modern malls like Caudan Waterfront for some quick shopping or just to quench your curiosity.

Your next stop will be at Citadelle, a historical military fortress site that features ruins and cannons overlooking the city of Port Louis on one side and rugged mountain ranges on the other.

By mid-day, visit Pamplemousses botanical garden a wide open park that is home to several animals, plants and ponds including the iconic giant waterlilies. Before we drop you back to your accommodation, a final stop will be made at a defunct sugar factory now transformed into a museum that depicts the history sugar production in Mauritius. Do not miss the free sampling of sugar and local rums!

Visit of the city of Port Louis – The capital of Mauritius
  • You will be spending a couple of hours in the markets of the capital of Mauritius - Port Louis, located on the northwest coast. There you will have the chance to experience live the culture of Mauritius
  • You can taste the exotic and delicious Mauritian street food
  • At the Caudan Waterfront and Port Louis Waterfront Shopping complex, you can find famous luxury duty-free shops and eat at exquisite restaurants therein
Visit the Fort Adelaide (also known as La Citadelle)
  • This is a British old fort built between 1834 and 1840. Located at 73 meters above sea level, this fort offered protection against enemy attacks
  • Designed by Colonel Cunningham, the building was made of huge rectangular blocks, in Moorish style with horse shoe arches
  • The fort has become a National Monument where you can have stunning views of the city of Port Louis, the Moka mountain ranges and also the harbour
Explore the Pamplemousses National Botanical Garden
  • The Pamplemousses National Botanical Garden is a must place to visit for tourists
  • You can find spices like the camphor, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove trees and many more
  • Different varieties of trees, giant tortoises, deers, stags, ponds filled with giant waterlilies can also be seen
  • You can have a look at the Chateau Mon Plaisir and a replica of the first sugar mill
Visit and tour of the Sugar Estate & Museum
  • The museum is located in the Beau Plan Sugar Estate, in Pamplemousses village
  • You'll learn about the historical and cultural side of the sugarcane production in Mauritius
  • You can have an in depth overview about the island history and it's evolution View the machines used for the extraction of sugar cane, clarifiers, the evaporators, vacuum pans, crystallizers, centrifuges and the chemistry lab
  • More interestingly, visitors can get to sample different types of unrefined sugars
  • For adults, there is rum tasting, including various sugar rums, spiced and aged rums and flavoured rums
Visit the colonial house of Château de Labourdonnais (optional)
  • The Château de Labourdonnais was built in 1856. For over 150 years, it has been the home of the Wiehe family. Refurbished in 2006, today it is considered as one of the most cultural sites in Mauritius.
  • Discover giant tortoises and at the end of your visit you can sample different varieties of products including delicious rums, jams, fruit jellies and fruit juices which are made on the estate

My wife and I chose this tour as we wanted to explore the north of Mauritius. Well, good decision from our side. We went to the historical market of Port Louis where we saw lots of stuff on sale, we tasted some local street foods also. Lots of cars and motorcycles in the city, nevertheless, we were safe and sound with our wonderful driver who knew all the shortcuts and roads there. We chatted with him while in the car. After visit to Port Louis, we went at the Citadelle, we had a great view of the surroundings and the mountains, saw also the famous horse track known as the Champ de Mars. Included during our day was some shopping at Caudan Waterfront, you’ll spot most of the iconic famous brands there. After that, our driver took us to the botanical garden which is located in Pamplemousses. Had a tremendous time walking amongst endemic trees and plants, we also spotted quite different species of birds singing everywhere. What a nice place it was for me and my lover!!My wife loved it. Then, we headed to a sugar mill where we tasted a variety of local rums. A day that will stay in our mind for very long!!!
